RESPONSIBILITIES OF LOCAL ADVOCACY/LEGISLATIVE CHAIRS

c Be or become knowledgeable with:

  • National PTA policy, legislative platform
  • Montana PTA policies, resolutions, platform
  • Children’s issues
  • Ways to communicate with policymakers
  • Job description
  • Non-partisan policy

c Be sure Montana PTA Legislative/Advocacy Vice-President knows your name and address.

c Be a Member-To-Member Network, member.

c Respond to legislative action requested by state.

c Encourage local members to join Member-To-Member and to respond to legislative action.

c Establish a Legislative Committee.

c Attend Board of Education Meetings.

c Keep local members informed on local, state and national issues.

c Develop a phone tree or email list, for your PTA/PTSA.

c Keep a file or a binder of pertinent information.

 c Become acquainted with legislators and local officials.
